Lylac Ridge’s main focus is to provide opportunities for children and young people, particularly those experiencing ‘disadvantage’, to grow emotionally and learn through interaction with a range of animals, this is called Animal Assisted Activities.

Some young people for one reason or another are unable to learn through mainstream school and require an education outside of school.  This is known as an alternative education provision

We provide the opportunity for these young people to access the animals at the centre or during outreach workshops.  This enables the young people a chance to learn about not just the animals, but their behaviour, how to care for them and the environment they live in.

Our animals include miniature donkeys, Shetland ponies, pygmy and dairy goats, a variety of chickens. Kune kune pigs and reindeer.

We are currently sourcing the perfect land but can provide outreach workshops

Einstein the Rhodesian Rdgeback donated blood and saved a dog’s life

We are now a registered centre for AQA accreditation

The donkeys will be visiting Hawthorn Primary School in March 2010

Lylac Ridge now has a group page on Facebook, please log in and add us as a friend.
